I was so excited to receive my first pair of black TuffRider riding boots, but opening the box was a major disappointment. The leather on the top of the right boot has visible loose grain and wrinkling, which research tells me happens when leather fibers are less tightly bonded and can be worsened by packaging pressure. Additionally, the right boot came with a scratch on the toe, and the ankle area was bunched and looked previously worn.

To top it off, when wearing them I can actually feel a sharp metal rod or component poking directly into the back of my right ankle. I am on the fence on keeping them just for casual wear despite the cosmetic flaws, but the structural poking may make them unwearable. I am going to try them with extra thick socks and see if I can get past the poke before I initiate a return. On the bright side, finding boots that fit wide calves can be tough, and I was thrilled with how comfortably they fit around my calves—I just wish the quality control on this pair had matched!
